My PC and Mac computers are the centers of our home entertainment. Here, I transfer and convert the DVD videos to the hard drive in MP4 for convenient playback and streaming, and keeping them away from being scratched. I see friends and other people would also like to rip DVDs to iPhone, iPad, extract audios, take screenshots, or cut part of a DVD, etc for different needs. Now, with WinX DVD Ripper Platinum, you don’t have to be professional in multimedia, or tech-savvy, to get your DVDs extracted. In this review of WinX DVD Ripper Platinum, you will see how powerful it is, and it would be your top choice to rip DVDs.
Tips: If you want to snap movement in real time, use a screen recorder.
What are your needs for ripping DVDs? If there’s a program that integrates DVD ripping and converting into one, will it be your choice? Well, here it comes! WinX DVD Ripper Platinum is such a program that rips and extracts the DVD video and converts it to common video formats such as MP4, AVI, MOV, FLV, WMV, MPEG, etc. Also, I see its developer Digiarty Inc, always keeps it up-to-date with the latest profiles for iPhone 12, new iPad, Apple TV, as well as devices from Sony, Microsoft, and so on. Importantly, WinX DVD Ripper supports different types of DVDs, including home-made DVDs, CSS protected DVDs, Sony ARccOS DVDs, and DVDs from all regions. In short, WinX DVD Ripper Platinum provides a better solution with great stability and efficiency in DVD ripping.
Following the review of WinX DVD Ripper Platinum, you will see the main features in detail.
Installing WinX DVD Ripper to your PC or Mac
WinX DVD Ripper Platinum is available for both PC and Mac. You can download the latest version from its official site here.
Installing WinX DVD Ripper is just like what we do for other programs on Windows. You should double click the .exe executable file to start the installation. Allow the program to make changes, select the language for installation, agree to the user agreement, change the installation folder as you prefer, and hit Next, Next, Next, and that’s it! Hit Finish and the installer will auto-launch the program.
If you are on a Mac, you need to double click the downloaded .dmg file to mount, and then drag the icon to the Applications folder as the arrow shows. Then, you can open the program from the Applications folder.
Support Any DVD for Ripping
WinX DVD Ripper Platinum supports all kinds of DVD videos. A DVD video is usually on a disc with IFO, BUP, and VOB files in the VIDEO_TS folder. If you want to learn more about your DVD about the IFO, BUP, and VOB files, you can check the details in Wikipedia. Back to the point, WinX can handle DVDs that are either home-made or protected.
Support Commercially Protected DVDs
Generally speaking, commercially purchased DVDs are copy-protected. And, there are different copy protections. Content Scrambling System(CSS) and DVD region code are general types of protection and WinX DVD Ripper Platinum can cope with them with ease. There is more complicated copy protection: the DVD Disc Corruption. Disney X and Sony ARccOS are based on DVD Disc Corruption and they give great trouble to DVD ripper software. The output videos are either out of sequence or they fail to rip those protected DVDs. However, WinX DVD Ripper Platinum builds in a decryption engine and can fully decrypt 99-title Disney X DVDs as well as those that are protected by Sony ARccOS.
UDF and ISO File System
There are four normal DVD file systems: UDF (Universal Disk Format) and ISO(ISO 9660), Joliet, and Romeo. For now, a majority of the DVDs’ file system is UDF and ISO. WinX DVD Ripper Platinum can handle those two file systems. With WinX DVD Ripper, it auto-detects the file system for loading, but you are always free to force loading the DVD by UDF or ISO file system. If your DVD ripper fails to load a DVD for ripping, it may just support UDF, and WinX DVD Ripper Platinum is right here to help.
Load Disc, ISO, and Folder
For WinX DVD Ripper Platinum, it can load a DVD from a DVD disc, or DVD ISO file that is created by itself or other programs, or the VIDEO_TS folder of the whole DVD that you move to the hard drive. Just click the Disc, ISO Image, or Folder button on top to load.
Auto-detect the Right DVD Title for Ripping
Disney DVDs bring a happy time for families, especially for kids. However, they are protected by Disney X, as mentioned above. And, there are up to 99 titles, and that’s very confusing. Other protected DVDs may also come with a lot of titles, and some DVD rippers fail to detect the right title. But for WinX DVD Ripper Platinum, it is really good at doing so with years of experience of finding the right DVD title, yielding twice the result with half the effort for your DVD ripping. If you want to change the DVD titles for ripping, think twice!
Rich Profiles to Meet Anyone’s Needs of Ripping
According to the statistics, there are 350+ profiles built-in to meet different people’s needs. Among them, Apple devices and Android devices are the major profiles. With those profiles, you can rip any of your DVDs to any of your devices.
Rip DVD to PC/Mac
I think it’s one of our main reasons to rip and backup DVDs to a PC or Mac’s hard drive, where we can watch, edit, and manage all the DVD videos. To be able to watch DVD movies on Windows Media Player or Movies & TV app for Windows 10, or QuickTime for macOS, WinX DVD Ripper Platinum helps you to rip DVDs to general PC or Mac videos like AVI, WMV, or MOV, M4V for playback without any third-party media players.
1:1 DVD Backup
I’d always like to save an intact copy of the original DVD. Instead of copying and burning DVDs to another blank DVD, I save the DVD to an ISO image. So, 1:1 DVD Backup is one of the main uses for WinX DVD Ripper Platinum. It backs up a DVD in 1:1 to ISO or VIDEO_TS folder on the hard drive. Since it is a 1:1 backup, it keeps the original video and audio quality, and you have all the features including menus, chapters, highlights, credits, and so on. After that, I can keep the DVDs somewhere safe from kids and I can re-rip or burn those ISO files as I wish.
There are two more profiles in DVD Backup that I am attentive to: Full Title Copy to copy all video, audio, and subtitle tracks and save an MPEG2 video without re-coding, and Main Title Content Copy to save a selected track to MPEG2 video without re-coding too. As is tested, you can save and backup your DVD with Main Title Content Copy in less than 10 minutes.
Rip DVD to Any Apple Devices
Apple offers the coolest and most popular products all over the world. And, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV are good for watching DVD movies. WinX DVD Ripper Platinum simply achieves the goal of ripping DVDs for watching on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, iPod as well as iTunes.
Nowadays, video editing is becoming more and more needed by people. iMovie and Final Cut Pro are two great programs by Apple, one for beginners and one for professionals. However, they don’t support editing DVDs directly. With WinX DVD Ripper, you can cut pieces of your DVD movies for editing with iMovie and Final Cut Pro.
Android is now the most popular Operating System in the whole world since it is open source. And, there are A LOT OF Android-based phones and tablets. WinX DVD Ripper Platinum makes it possible to enjoy DVD movies on almost all Android devices. Android phones and tablets from Samsung, Huawei, HTC, Google, Amazon, etc are supported. But, what if we don’t locate a profile for my device? No problem, go for the general one and it works.
Watching movies on a PS4 is also great fun. We see that PS4 can play DVD discs without any issue. You can rip DVDs to PS4 and WinX DVD Ripper Platinum is right here to help. Meanwhile, there are profiles for Microsoft, Nokia, etc as well!
Optimize DVD for Streaming
Be careful to share your purchased DVDs even if you have the full copyright. However, there won’t be any problem sharing your teaching videos, school/college reunion recordings, wedding videos, and many others that you burned to DVD in the past years. And, where do you want to share those cherished moments? The latest video sharing sites YouTube? Facebook, Vimeo, or your own website?
As you see from the above screenshot, WinX DVD Ripper Platinum can rip your DVD to YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, Vimeo, or general web sites and optimize them for better streaming.
Watch DVDs on TVs
A few years ago, when we wanted to watch DVD movies, we may need to hook a DVD player to the TV, insert the DVDs into the player for watching. But now, with more and more smart TVs, we can play DVD movies in MP4, AVI, MKV, etc. And, I do believe it would be more fun to enjoy DVD movies on larger screen TVs. So now, we can use WinX DVD Ripper Platinum to rip DVDs to TVs and there are built-in profiles for Sony, Samsung, LG, Panasonic TVs.
DVD to Plex
I see many others like me use Plex Media Server to manage all the DVD movies and stream them to TVs for watching. I’d really like to say thanks to Plex because it’s always working fine and it’s really convenient to manage the movies. Plex supports different video formats and what I just do is to rip DVDs to MP4 in General Profiles in WinX DVD Ripper and add them to Plex for future watching! Actually, MP4 H.264 is officially recommended.
Extract DVD to Music
We don’t always need the video content of the DVD. For music, concert DVDs, and others, we may just want background music or film scores. There are three profiles in WinX DVD Ripper Platinum for you to easily extract DVD to music in MP3, AAC, and even AC3/DTS, which can be the original 5.1 sound without any quality loss.
For MP3 and AAC, you can even set the bit rate up to 320 kbps.
I don’t use TS videos at all and I see they are less popular at the moment. If you like, you can rip DVD to TS video in .ts and .m2ts. Video codec can be H.264 and MPEG2 with audio codec AAC and MP2.
Fast DVD Ripping with GPU Acceleration
WinXDVD says it’s one of the fastest DVD ripping solutions on PC and Mac and I do believe this is true. Other than ripping DVDs to uncompressed MPEG2 video with Main Title Content Copy in DVD Backup, you can also rip DVD to MP4 at a very fast speed. WinX DVD Ripper Platinum takes full use of your CPU for ripping. And, if you set the MP4 to H264 for ripping, it will also speed up the whole ripping process with your GPU if it’s supported for H.264 acceleration. Generally, Intel and NVIDIA GPUs are supported.
Keep High Quality for Ripping
When you are prompted to choose profiles before ripping, you may notice the slider as shown below. WinX DVD Ripper Platinum keeps it in the middle and it is a balance between output video quality, size, and time it takes for ripping. You can set it to HQ for slower ripping, with better quality and larger file size, or LQ for lower quality but faster speed in ripping and smaller file size.
Basic DVD Editing and DVD Preview
We don’t always want the full disc and sometimes we just need a small part of the DVD. WinX DVD Ripper Platinum can trim any part of the DVD for us. And, it’s easy to trim within the Edit window. We just need to enable Trimming and drag the triangle or set the Start or End Time ourselves.
Within the editing window, some other basic DVD editing features may attract you like Crop and Expand. You can increase the DVD volume by up to 200% in General. Surely, you can preview the whole DVD here as well!
Advanced User Settings
For general DVD ripping, we recommend you guys to keep the default settings within the program as they just work fine.
However, if there is anything wrong with the ripping, you can check Safe Mode in WinX DVD Ripper Platinum. It is a bit slower but this time it will work for you!
“Use High-Quality Engine” and “Deinterlacing” are the other two advanced settings in the main UI along with Safe Mode. However, I think they will only work for old DVDs that are not very clear in quality or interlaced.
Besides, some other advanced details can be set in Option. You can click the gear icon to access them. Here, you can set the video codec, bit rate, FPS, aspect ratio, resolution as well as audio codec, channel, sample rate, and bit rate!
The Mac version: Rip DVDs on Big Sur and Silicon M1 Macs
Digiarty names its Windows version as WinX DVD Ripper Platinum and Mac version WinX DVD Ripper for Mac. We notice there is NO Platinum in the name. Do they work differently? Does that mean the Mac version is less powerful? From what I can see, they work just the same. The Mac version supports the latest macOS Big Sur and Silicon M1 Macs like MacBook Air, Pro, and Mac Mini.
Please note if you are running macOS Catalina or Big Sur, be sure to allow the program to access the removable volume, which is your DVD drive, as shown below. Or, you won’t be able to load the DVD to the program for ripping.

WinX DVD Ripper Platinum Review: The Pricing
WinX DVD Ripper Platinum is available for both Windows and macOS. The trial version is free to use, however, each ripping is limited for only five minutes with all functions. To unlock the full version and remove the 5-min limitation, WinX DVD Ripper Platinum provides three offers as shown below: $29.95 for 1 Year/1 PC/Mac license, $47.95 for a Lifetime 1 PC/Mac license, and $69.95 for 5-PC/Mac license.
However, the 1-YEAR license is NOT recommended only if you just want to rip a couple of DVDs within a year. As you can see from the explanations, there is no auto-renewal, which seems good, but your only option is to re-order the program AGAIN at the same price if you still want to use it, or, you lose it. Lifetime 1 PC/Mac license is recommended with great cost performance and you will get a free gift.
And, I have GOOD news for you. You can get a LIFETIME license for WinX DVD Ripper at just $29.95(TAX/VAT may apply accordingly)! This special offer is available until Jan 21, 2021.
Pros and Cons:
Disney and other protected DVDs supported

Set default audio for ripping. It’s a tiny feature, but very useful.

I am a fan of WinX DVD Ripper Platinum and I have ripped tons of my DVDs with it. It does a great job in removing the DVD copy protections and it’s stable and very easy to use. Generally, you can get your DVDs copied to the hard drive with about 4 mouse clicks. With a lot of built-in profiles, it can meet almost everybody’s needs. WinX DVD Ripper Platinum is definitely a powerful tool for DVD ripping and can be your first choice.
