How to make money in your free time?

Content Attributes

The modern internet is rife with opportunities to make money on the side. These days, it seems like everyone has a side hustle of one kind or another, and the rise of multi-level-marketing schemes and bitcoin scams has flooded society with hollow get rich quick schemes. You don’t want to end up trying to sell overpriced fitness shakes to Jenny from work, right? Exactly. Take it from somebody who knows, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. And while it’s certainly possible to monetize your free time, there’s rarely such a thing as easy money.

Let’s take a look at three of the most practical ways to get your side hustle started, with pros and cons for each.

BLOGGING

Getting started as a blogger has never been easier. You don’t need to be a web designer or search engine optimization pro to do it, either – there’s a huge array of hosting options available to get you started. WordPress in particular is an excellent choice for beginners or more experienced users. It powers about forty percent of the websites in existence, which should definitely tell you all you need to know about its accessibility and customisation.

This isn’t a quick earner – you’ll need to create regular, engaging posts, which is easier than you might think if you’re passionate about the subject. You could curate a collection of recipes, or cover the career of your favourite sports teams, backing it up with statistics and predictions from the best sports betting sites. You can turn those page views to profit by signing up to Google AdSense, and potentially get other perks in the form of free review items.

The problem with blogging is that the market is so saturated. It can be hard to stand apart from the crowd, especially when so many people use WordPress and its selection of free themes. You do need to put a bit of work in to get the ball rolling.

CRAFTING

Plenty of people craft as a hobby – just look at Etsy or even the astounding cosplay community to look at what some people create. So if you already paint, craft or otherwise create anything in your spare time, why not consider opening your own shop?

Platforms like Etsy are attractive to beginners because they do a lot of the hard work for you. Meaning you have more time to make your product. Having it built into an existing site with a ton of existing users is a huge plus too. But it’s just as easy to set up your own web store via – you guessed it – our old friend WordPress. You have to arrange your own hosting. Sure, but you’ll be able to monetise the site itself too via AdSense and cut out the middle man.

Taking this route means you’ll probably need a decent initial outlay of time, money and materials to get started, unlike blogging which just requires time. It does provide a great opportunity to develop your artsy abilities though, whilst profiting from your hobby!

FIVERR

Already got some profitable skills? Want to cash in on them quickly without the initial outlay of time or money? There’s an app for that. Fiverr is a gig-economy job marketplace that covers a huge range of skills. Everything is priced per project, so if you’re handy with web design, video editing or graphics. You can easily pick up some freelance work to crack on with in your spare time. This brings all your work opportunities straight to you. You don’t need to worry about investing extra free time into finding them. Plus, Fiverr tells you exactly what you’ll get paid up front, removing a lot of that typical freelance anxiety.

Not everybody will be able to hop on this particular train. You will need an existing portfolio and the relevant skills to be successful here. Even if you’re just doing it on the side. Payments aren’t released until your client has signed off on the project. And it does require experience in some specialised areas. But if you’ve already got that and you’re after a quick buck, give Fiverr a good long look.

That’s it for this one – there’s a wealth of resources supporting all of these options on the internet. So if something’s piqued your interest, be sure to read further!
