How to Care for Your Sensitive Skin?

Care for Your Sensitive Skin

If you have sensitive skin, caring for it properly is likely always at the forefront of your mind.

You have to put extra thought into what you eat, how you sleep and spend extra time “poring” over your skincare routine.

Well, we’ve been there, and know the struggle is real! And in this guide, we’ll share with you all the best ways to care for your sensitive skin.

Always Read the Labels

Before you put anything on your skin, always check to see what’s in it. If you have sensitive skin, it’s best to avoid products with mystery ingredients.

And keep in mind, manufacturers list ingredients on a label in order of quantity. This is why we often see “water” as the first ingredient in food and personal care items!

This is also crucial to know because alcohol ingredients are almost always in skincare products. If your sensitive skin is on the dry side, alcohol will only make that worse.

So when shopping for new products, ensure alcohol is not one of the first several ingredients. It’s best to avoid it completely, but again, it’s prevalent in so many items, even the high-end, organic types.

The same goes for ingredients that nurture sensitive skin, such as aloe vera, oats, and chamomile. A product may boast that it contains these ingredients but check the label before purchasing to ensure that they’re at the top of the ingredients list, not at the end.

Find the Cleansing Routine That Works for You

When you have sensitive skin, how and when and with what you wash your face is essential in caring for it.

(Some people just use body wash in the shower to cleanse their non-sensitive skin … but not us!)

Yeah, people with sensitive skin have to put a lot more effort into their skincare routine. But it takes a lot of experimentation to figure out the magic combination for your specific skin.

And cleansing is the place to start since it’s the foundation for caring for your sensitive skin.

To find your ideal face and body wash, look for a type that is best for sensitive skin. The label will say this, and will probably include other phrases that should make your ears perk up, such as “fragrance-free,” “oil-free,” and “non-comedogenic.”

Don’t forget to check that ingredient list!

You’ll also want to figure out what cleansing texture is best for your skin: creamy, gel-based, or foam. Avoid abrasive cleansers like pore scrubs while you find your ideal cleanser to limit the possibility of bad skin reactions.

After experimenting with a few face and body cleansers that have your ideal ingredients and textures, you can base the rest of your skincare products on these. You may find a brand that really benefits your sensitive skin and pick up their moisturizers, toners, and serums, too.

Eat for Sensitive Skin

For people with sensitive skin, what you eat is reflected in your complexion.

Do your best to eat a diet rich in fruits, veggies, whole grains, protein, and essential fats.

When in doubt, consult this list. It’s crucial to eat well and drink plenty of water, especially when your sensitive skin is more prone to breakouts and dry patches.

Carve Out Time to Chill

Stress is one of your most significant foes when it comes to caring for your sensitive skin.

When you start to stress, your body releases hormones like cortisol. Cortisol increases your skin’s oil production, which means more clogged pores and breakouts.

Also, if you’re prone to eczema or psoriasis, stress worsens these two skin conditions as well.

Therefore, we suggest you make distressing a priority to provide the best care for your sensitive skin.

Some of our favorite ways to unwind and chill include:

  • Taking a soothing oatmeal bath.
  • Munching on a relaxing CBD gummy.
  • Meditating at the end of a long day.
  • Having a weekend Netflix PJ party with a partner or best friend.

You may be thinking, “but I’m a high-powered businessperson. I can’t just drop everything and take a relaxing oat bath!”

Wrong! Oat baths soothe dry, itchy skin. And, it only takes up 15 minutes of your day.

Or maybe you’re thinking, “um, I’m a mom, as awesome as it sounds, I can’t just pop an edible when I’m stressed!”

Equally wrong! You can absolutely enjoy a CBD edible to help you destress and unwind and not worry about neglecting your mom duties. Learn more about that here.

Realistically, you cannot prevent stress from finding you. What you can do, however, is to set aside a specific time in your day to chill out.

Trust us: your sensitive skins will thank you!
