What are the differences between international and non-international schools? Are international schools really worth the huge fee?

In India, education is one of the most important aspects that parents focus on. It would be correct tos say that education is considered four major categories.

  1. Government Schools
  2. Private Schools
  3. Convent Schools
  4. International Schools

If you are looking to understand the differences between the different schools, let us look at a few of them.

Teaching methodologies. Government and convent schools usually follow the rote method. While private schools try and move away from rote methods of teaching, the high number of students in each class, limits the success of practical assignments and learning by doing.  On the other hand, international schools focus on helping a child get clarity of a concept along with practical knowhow instead of just focussing on theoretical knowledge.

Fee structure: Because of the individual attention that international schools give to each child, they have a higher fee structure as compared to non-international schools. Government schools have nominal fees as they are managed by Central and State governments to ensure each child has access to quality education. Fees for private and convent schools  will vary depending on their location, popularity and the infrastructure they offer the students.

Curriculum: In India, all non-international schools will provide curricula of an Indian education society or board. The curricula of the Central Board of Secondary Education is the most popular, as are the state boards. International schools, however, will offer more than one curricula. Some may offer the International Baccalaureate others may offer a combination of the Global Montessori Program and CBSE. However, teaching methodologies will follow international standards.

Infrastructure: Most international schools in India are more likely to have modern libraries and laboratories when compared to convent or private schools. Remember, this may not be true for all schools as some private schools go out of their way to offer excellence in strides, sports, and more. But, you can expect a dedicated focus on helping students meet world-class standards at international schools.

International schooling. While not all parents find the affordability of the international schools convenient, they may offer you an academic alternative that has global inclusion, which you may want to consider.

Exposure to international events: Students studying at international schools like Global Indian International School are more likely to participate in competitions held at international platforms. This helps them to interact with peers and experts from different countries, thus providing them an opportunity to understand subject matter and interact with industry leaders. An exposure at this level is important to boost a child’s confidence and awareness. While non-international schools may also offer such opportunities, they are most likely to be limited to those few who are extroverts and are not shy to share their talents with their classmates and teachers.

Choosing the right school is an important decision for all parents. Providing your child with the best education is a priority, but your budget and accessibility to the school also plays a major role. International schools do nurture each child to reach their full potential and if you lack the funds for your child, you can approach the school for scholarships. Most international schools have programs to provide admission to gifted students.

Take time to study schools before taking admission.
