importance of physical fitness

All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy. Even though physical fitness and wellness is an important element in everyone’s life, it is all the more crucial for students to remain physically fit and lead an active lifestyle. It is well known that the students who are physically active tend to perform better academically, have better brain function, and develop a confident demeanor and a well-rounded personality. Higher levels of physical activity and fitness levels have been known to correspond to enhanced cognitive performance among students. Students should try to get at least 60 minutes or more of exercise 3 days a week. Educators can play a major role in encouraging the students to participate in physical activities and sports.

Nowadays, our ways of teaching and learning have changed a lot. Especially since the coronavirus pandemic, when schools and college campuses were shut down, locking millions of students and teachers across the entire nation out of the classroom, school management and educators had to shift towards online teaching as a viable alternative to traditional offline education.

Teaching online with the help of online classes app provides several advantages such as flexibility to teach and learn from anywhere at any time, mass reach, affordability, dynamic content and likewise. However, this has resulted in a somewhat sedentary lifestyle in the students which is not good. It is high time that the educators and the students realize the importance of physical fitness in the students’ lives. Here are a few important reasons why every student should strive to be more physically active and focus more on their physical fitness….

Reduced stress-

The life of a student is no less stressful than the lives of adults. They have to face cutthroat competition from school exams, to college entrance exams, college exams and placements. Stress is the most pervasive health hazard threatening the well being of the younger generation. Being unfit can be a cause of self-loathing and lack of confidence which alone are enough to push the stress levels through the roof. Moreover, unfit students fall ill more frequently and absenteeism is a major problem for such students.

Thus, they find it difficult to catch up with the course and maintain their academic performance which can be a major stressor and a further detriment to their mental well-being. Thus, being unfit is a downward spiral in a student’s life. On the other hand, keeping yourself physically fit improves your posture, makes you more confident which leads to better academic performance and inter-personal relationships and therefore makes your life stress free.

Makes you more energetic-

An unfit body leads to laziness and procrastination, any of which you don’t want to touch with a ten-foot pole as a student. Keeping yourself physically fit makes you more active, energetic and spirited which in turn makes you more competent, enthusiastic and diligent in all walks of life including studies. Thus, keeping fit helps a student in enhancing their academic performance in more ways than one.

Prevents diseases-

It is said that health is wealth. As students, we work hard to build the life of our dreams. Naturally then, we must also prepare our body so that we are able to enjoy the life we are working so hard to build for ourselves. Keeping yourself physically fit with exercise and diet, helps in improving heart health, prevents onset of type-2 diabetes, prevents hypertension and yields many more benefits. Physical fitness should be inculcated in students from a young age as a lifestyle in order to help them achieve success, nurture and develop them into excellent human resources who are an asset to the nation.

Controls weight-

Weight gain is associated with a host of health problems and even general problems such as more frequent sprains, body aches and likewise. It is also a cause of low confidence level in quite a few cases. It also leads to an increase in cholesterol levels in the body which is a serious threat to our heart health. Keeping yourself physically fit can prevent all these problems which have no place in a student life.

Keeping yourself physically fit should be the first and foremost goal of every individual. You must respect your body because that is the only place where you will ever live. Keeping in mind the factors mentioned here, every student should try to be more physically active and maintain an optimum level of physical fitness.
