The Common Law Entrance Test (CLAT) is a nationwide exam for undergraduate and graduate degrees. CLAT is in turn managed by the National Law Universities (NLU). It takes place every year on the second Sunday of May. This exam is designed to allow students to take courses such as BA LLB, BBA LLB, B.Com LLB, B.Sc LLB. CLAT is a MCQ based exam, with in total 200 marks. Also Negative marking is there, 0.25 on each wrong answer. CLAT Preparation Strategy: Understanding of the study program and its distribution: the CLAT is basically divided into 5 sections, each section is assigned marks, most of which is legal aptitude and general knowledge. Therefore, the maximum time and energy should be specified in these sections. While the math is only 20 points, or 10% of the total. Therefore, wasting time on math can hamper your choices. Main focus: Legal aptitude- Legal Aptitude should be a primary concern as it is not taught in schools but plays an important role in CLAT and other law related exams. Given the past five to ten years of review, the focus is on: criminal Law, Law of Tort, Indian Constitution and Contract Law etc. Therefore, it is important to focus on developing a good understanding of these four areas as well as reading other parts of the program in a basic way. GK and Current Affairs: Reading newspapers regularly, along with a magazine or two, is very helpful for following religiously. Some current areas such as sports, literature, science, economy, awards, days & events, are very important and should be addressed in a targeted way. Tests should be attempted after at least 80% of program preparation.
