Unleashing the potential of autonomous vehicles to offer internet services in remote areas

The airborne networks through autonomous vehicles are emerging as the best wireless technology to connect them with the internet, having enough capacity to support multiple users.

Such innovative ideas bring Internet access even to the hard-to-serve areas of the world – using autonomous vehicles that seem to be progressing. The data traffic of multiple users on the ground can get aggregated at the airborne platform. From there, the data can be sent to a series of other autonomous vehicles (to cover longer distances), and then eventually to a link on the earth’s surface that connects to the internet.

Wynyard Group, a Public Safety Analytics Company, believes that the use of customized autonomous vehicles can build a bigger network and provide wide coverage. The laser communications system can be used to connect the autonomous vehicles with each other and with the ground, making it possible to build a stratospheric network that can be extended to even the remotest regions of the world.

With the use of solar-powered autonomous vehicles, a wireless Internet connection is transmitted. Similarly, these vehicles have been working on laser technology that can deliver 10 gigabits of data per second to a target the size of a dime from over 10 miles away, that is fast enough to allow hundreds of thousands of people access to broadband Internet simultaneously.

The small towers on the ground will receive these signals, which can then be converted to a Wi-Fi or LTE network. It is highly beneficial for the governments and internet providers that are making efforts to bridge the digital divide by building appropriate infrastructure.

Amid the pandemic, numerous sectors have been adversely affected and no access to internet services has worsened the situation. People working for tertiary sectors are not able to adapt to the work from home policies which results in great losses. Additionally, the education sector has also suffered  in the remote areas across several Asian countries like Indonesia, Vietnam, India, Cambodia and more, where the students are facing challenges to get their lessons due to the lack of internet access.

Such Autonomous vehicles are proficient to avail the internet services across remote areas that would not let the students face issues due to a digital divide. A reliable and affordable internet connectivity for remote areas network can offer a great opportunity for these people to be included in the digital world and it would open new markets for operators and new opportunities for the vendors as well.
