Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is established under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
FSSAI Registration is applied to obtain a Food License that has been established under the Food Safety and Security Act of 2006. The license has sets standards for Food business operator’s for production, storage, distribution, sales and imports of the food products based on science and regulates.
FSSAI has made First amendments on dated 13 July 2016 to the Food Safety and Standards, these regulations have been called the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Business) First Amendment Regulations, 2016.
Main objective of FSSAI Food License is to maintain food quality standard under the Food Safety Act to ensure the food is good for human consumption. A state license is generally issued for medium scale businesses like storage, distributor, wholesaler, caterer, supplier, food labellers and dairy units etc.
FSSAI Basic Registration: Basic registration for FSSAI is required for the food business operators whose annual turnover is less than 12 lakhs.
Food Business does not need the food license but the basic registration is mandatory for all types of food businesses. State Government also does the Basic Registration for the food business. All types of small scale packers, sellers, small scale food businesses and distributors, small hotels etc need to have a Basic Registration.
