Do you let heat protectant dry before straightening a rod? Yes, you should. It is almost a sacred rule that you should let heat protectant dry before straightening any wood. If you don’t, you will be doing yourself a big injustice, because it can actually harm your wood.
What’s the reason for this? Well, you see, heat protector is going to stop water from evaporating when you put it on the surface of the wood. This water that is not evaporated can penetrate the wood and cause micro cracks in the wood. Check out Benefits of Benjamins Bay Rum here.
The reason for this is that some wood is actually porous and absorbs water when wet. In many cases, these are hard woods such as maple, oak, or mahogany. But this water can also be absorbed by the surface of the wood and not evaporated.
If you do not air out your home prior to putting a sealant on the surface, then you will be causing your moisture levels to rise. You must maintain the same moisture levels as you would have if you had allowed the water to evaporate. If you allow the moisture levels to rise, then you will find that the moisture will cause micro cracks.
If you lower your humidity levels, then you will find that the wood will become soft. And even though you may think that it is okay, but this will cause the surface to warp and buckle. If you are using a spray sealant to stop water from evaporating on the surface of the wood, then you must also use a cloth to clean the applicator before you apply the protector.
When you spray the heat protector, you want to spray it over a larger area so that the solution reaches the interior part of the wood. In other words, don’t simply spray it on the surface of the wood. If you only spray on the surface of the wood, then you may only be creating the moisture and will have no effect.
In order to create the water damage that occurs, you must always make sure that you air out your home prior to using the spray protector. By air-out, we mean that you need to open all of the windows and turn the fan on to ventilate the air that is inside of your home. Air out will also help you prevent mold and mildew growth from growing on the surface of the wood that you are protecting with the heat protector. This will help you get your wood looking like new and will save you money in the long run.
