Tips for washing curtains at home

Did you think that the curtains did not get dirty? Being hung on the window with hardly touching the ground, it seems that they cannot be stained. However, dust accumulates over time and therefore it is advisable to wash them at least once a year. This is even more necessary if you have a fireplace, live with young children or smokers, or if there is a lot of pollution in your area.

Washing the curtains at the dry cleaner or at home?

To see if you can put the curtains in the washing machine, check the label. Usually, you can put them in without problems since they are made of materials such as cotton, polyester, nylon, or a mixture of these fibers suitable for the washing machine.

How to wash the curtains in the washing machine?

If your curtain is attached to the rod with metal clips or hoops, remove them from the curtain and store them in a box to replace later. Do not put them in the washing machine as they could fall down the drum and cause problems during spinning.

Use a program for delicate and cold water. The ideal temperature is between 30 and 45ºC depending on the dirt and stains. We don’t want them to shrink!

After washing them, you have two options. If you have a dryer at home, don’t think twice. Check the label and, if possible, tumble dry your curtains to get them quickly clean, dry, and wrinkle-free. If the fabric is delicate, we recommend that you iron them at a gentle temperature to remove the most difficult wrinkles.

If you do not have a dryer at home, you will have to hang them to remove the humidity, although in summer if it is hot you can hang them directly to dry. Thanks to its weight, hardly any wrinkles will appear in the fabric.

Tips for washing your curtains

Before Curtain Cleaning in Sydney, check for stains. If there are, select the stain – proofing system of your washing machine because it treats each type of stain (red wine, blood, grass, and oil/butter) specifically.

If the fabric of the curtain is linen or 100% cotton, we recommend that you wash them in cold water in order to prevent them from shrinking. To remove wrinkles, you will have to steam iron them.

Use a special liquid detergent for delicate fabrics.

Wash them alone, do not mix them with other garments as this will not fade or scratch the fabric.

Do not spin them excessively so that they do not wrinkle, it is recommended that you select 1,000 – 1,200 rpm.

Be careful with the weight of the curtains, if they are more than 2 meters high and wide, you can only put them in the washing machine if it is of large capacity (8-9 kg) since it is not good to put more kilos than the washing machine supports because the drum could be damaged.
