Although many people call this spice cardamom, it is appropriately called cardamom. It is either obtained from the seeds of plants that have their original homeland in South and Southeast Asia. At the same time, spices can currently be purchased in two basic variants:
Green cardamom, also called true cardamom, is made from the species Cardamom’s seeds (Elettaria cardamomum).
Black cardamom, also called “Nepalese,” comes from the species Amomum subulatum.
Healing effects of cardamom
Cardamom seeds contain many active substances, whether they are essential oils, proteins, starches, terpenes, niacin, thiamine, or riboflavin. Therefore, the powder made from them has interesting healing effects, for which it has long been used in Asia. So you can “put on cardamom” in case of problems with the digestive system, such as cramps, flatulence, heartburn, or stomach irritation. Simultaneously, it has a positive effect on the nervous system, so it can be tested even during excessive stress, mental fatigue, or depressive states.
Cardamom has a diuretic effect, thus acting diuretic, and may also help with heart failure and respiratory problems, including asthma and pneumonia. You can also use it for viral and bacterial diseases, inflammation, or kidney and gallstones. By gargling the infusion, you can help with sore throats, but it also positively affects the teeth and gums. Men can then use it as an aphrodisiac or use Fildena 100 or Fildena 150. However, people who suffer from the gallbladder should only consume it after consulting a doctor.
Cardamom as a spice
Cardamom spice is commonly available today, but you won’t be fooled to crush the seeds yourself to keep the powder as fresh as possible. You can then use it to season a variety of foods. First of all, due to the area of origin, these are oriental dishes, but they can be used just as well to prepare salads, compotes, pastries, sweet dishes, while in Arab countries, it is also added to tea or coffee. However, the infusion is probably best used for health problems.
Cardamom infusion recipe: pour one teaspoon of the powder with about 0.25 l of water and let it infuse for 15 minutes.
In our conditions, cardamom can be grown at home as a houseplant. It is enough to plant it in a common substrate, or rhizomes can propagate it. The plant needs heat all year round. Also, sufficient moisture is important during the summer, and fertilization about once every 14 days. It should not be exposed to direct sunlight at the same time. Conversely, during the winter months, you should place it somewhat out of the shade, during which time you only need to fertilize once a month with a fertilizer for green houseplants.
Saffron – a spice that is one of the most expensive in the world
When it is said that something is “like saffron,” it means that it is not the most common, and we have to save with it. Why did this proverb come about? Saffron as a spice is very expensive. It is obtained from a crocus plant (Crocus sativus), which thrives in warm areas and is considered the original homeland of West Asia. In ancient times, it was a luxury item that could not be afforded by just anyone, which is still true today.
The reason why Saffron is so valuable is its difficult extraction. The spice itself comes from the purple flowers of this plant, i.e., preferably from the three dried scars inside. These can only be collected by hand, and up to 200,000 flowers are needed for one kilogram of saffron spice. So it’s no wonder that you can usually get it, but you can pay hundreds of thousands of crowns for one kilo! So if you want to use it, a few grams will cost you several hundred crowns…

Saffron’s aroma can enhance the taste of many dishes and, at the same time, add a yellow color to individual dishes. However, it is necessary to save with it, not only due to its high purchase price. But now you may be wondering what dishes are suitable for it. There are several options.
It is widely used to flavor various soups, sauces, or side dishes such as rice, pasta, or couscous. It is also suitable for many types of meat or cheese but can also be used in combination with sweet foods (desserts, creams, etc.), fruit, or alcoholic beverages (e.g., liqueurs or wine). For completeness, let us add that Saffron is currently used mainly in some European cuisines (mostly French and Spanish), Arabic cuisine, and the Far East, specifically in India and China.
